August 8-10, 2025: Creative Surface Design with Stacy Morgan!

I’m so excited to host a fun, information-packed workshop exploring creative clay surface techniques with the amazing and talented Stacy Morgan! The workshop will be held in Tallahassee, FL at the LeMoyne Arts ceramic studio. In addition to our time in the studio, we will have an artist meet and greet on Friday, August 8th, at Proof Brewing, Co. This casual event is free to attend and open to the community. Time: 9am-5pm

Cost: $395 per person

Ages: 18+

Maximum class size: 20 

Skill Level: This is a surface decoration skill building workshop, so you'll need basic pottery skills. Beginners are welcome!

Registrants will be notified no later than Monday, July 7, 2025 if minimum class size is not met.

​

In this 3-day skill building workshop, you will learn a wide variety of surface decoration techniques to add visual and textural interest to your wheel thrown and hand built pottery including:

• Slip trailing from preparing slip for the best, most predictable results, adjusting slip, applying it, and special techniques

• Making and using colored slips

• Making and using stencils

• Image transfer

• Screen printing on clay

• Layering for texture

• Water etching

• Using the Cricut for clay

• Glaze trailing

 

What’s included:​

• Materials and specialty tools provided for skills practice during the workshop.

• Clay for practice tiles (Miller #65/Laguna WC-609) will be provided. 

• Tools will be provided for use during the workshop.

• Coffee, tea, water, and some light snacks will be provided.

Optional things to bring:

• Your own medium leather hard pottery pieces if you’d like to decorate your own work. WHITE CLAY ONLY

• Your own tools if you prefer, or you are welcome to use studio tools.

• Your own Cricuit machine, iPad, and Apple pencil if you'd like to create your own stencil along with the instructor, but if you don't have one, that's ok! Stacy will have lots of stencils on hand to practice techniques.

• Snacks to share are always welcome, but never required. We will check with everyone regarding food allergies before the workshop.

 

About the artist:

Stacy Morgan is a potter and sculptor from Huntsville, Alabama. Her studio, S.P. Morgan Studio is located at historic Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment, the largest privately owned studio facility in the Southeast. She attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts, and received her BFA from the University of Montevallo. Her work has been exhibited throughout the region, and she has been a featured presenter and given workshops at ClayCon West in Utah, The Coastal Arts Center at Orange Beach, the Alabama Clay Conference, and numerous regional ceramic art facilities. She is the Program Manager for the Alabama Visual Arts Network, and has served on the board for InsideOut Studio, a studio for artists with special needs and the Huntsville Gallery Tour.
